Kagoshima Honkakushochu Competition

The Kagoshima Honkakushochu Competition evaluates Honkaku Shochu crafted during the brewing year. A panel of eight experts, including appraisers from the Kumamoto Regional Taxation Bureau, conducts a blind tasting to assess the entries. Products are rated on a 5-point scale based on criteria such as taste and aroma. The “Award” is bestowed upon excellent shochu in each category: Imo Shochu, Kokuto Shochu, Kome Shochu and Mugi Shochu.
