Award: SAKURA Japan Women’s Wine Awards 2024 Double Gold
We are pleased to announce that “Koshu Orange-Gris 2022” and “Hosaka Muscat Bailey A Barrel Aged 2021,” crafted at Mars Hosaka Winery by Hombo Shuzo Co., Ltd., have received the Double Gold award at the 11th SAKURA Japan Women’s Wine Awards 2024. Additionally, “Makioka Koshu Sparkling 2022” was awarded Gold.

Koshu Orange-Gris 2022
This wine is created by fully extracting the rich aromas, savory depth, and pigments found in the skins of Koshu grapes, resulting in a delicate orange hue. Characterized by a pleasant astringency and savory notes derived from the skins, it is crafted into a fruit-forward wine that highlights the distinct personality of the grapes.
Hosaka Muscat Bailey A Barrel Aged 2021
Crafted from Muscat Bailey A grapes grown in Hosakamachi, this wine is aged in barrels for a prolonged period of 12 months. This process gently wraps the concentrated fruit aromas in a scent of oak, resulting in a masterpiece with a solid, full-bodied taste.

Makioka Koshu Sparkling 2022
Fermented at low temperatures using exclusively free-run juice from Koshu grapes grown in Makioka. This sparkling wine features pleasant fruity citrus aromas, creating a slightly sweet profile where refreshing acidity and natural fruit sweetness gently spread across the palate.
SAKURA Japan Women’s Wine Awards
The SAKURA Japan Women’s Wine Awards began in 2014 as an international wine competition judged by women in Japan. With the number of entries increasing every year, it has become known as one of the largest and most valuable wine competitions in Asia. This year, 4,023 wines from 27 countries were blind-tasted by 430 female judges active in the Japanese wine industry. Depending on the score, Double Gold, Gold, and Silver awards are selected, and from the Double Gold winners, the Diamond Trophy and Special Awards Grand Prix are bestowed.
