About the Kagoshima Honkakushochu Competition

The Kagoshima Honkakushochu Competition judges Honkaku Shochu produced in that brewing year. Seven experts, including officers from the Kumamoto Regional Taxation Bureau Appraisal Office, conduct a blind tasting to comprehensively evaluate the taste, aroma, etc., on a 5-point scale. The “Yutoshou” (Award) is presented to those recognized as excellent in each category (Imo Shochu, Brown Sugar Shochu, Rice/Mugi Shochu).
