Hombo Shuzo Co., Ltd. is pleased to announce the release of “Single Malt Komagatake 40th Anniversary Special Edition” to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the completion of Mars Komagatake Distillery.
Mars Komagatake Distillery was established in 1985 in Miyada Village, at the foot of Mt. Kisokomagatake in the Central Alps mountain range of Nagano Prefecture. Blessed with a cool climate and high-quality water, the distillery, surrounded by a magnificent natural forest, allows its whiskies to mature slowly in the quiet flow of time, continuously creating a diverse range of whisky spirits. Mars Komagatake Distillery, which began operations in 1985, celebrates its 40th anniversary in 2025.

Product Description

“Single Malt Komagatake 40th Anniversary Special Edition” is a special single malt whisky that expresses the distillery’s 40-year history in a single bottle by vatting malt whiskies from four decades: the 1980s, 1990s, 2010s, and 2020s (excluding the dormant period of the 2000s), to commemorate the 40th anniversary. It uses malt spirits aged in diverse casks such as Bourbon, Sherry, and American White Oak, and is finished non-chill filtered to allow you to enjoy a taste closer to the cask strength. You can enjoy a multilayered aroma where the sweetness reminiscent of apple jam, ripe apricot, and melon overlaps with vanilla and oak aging scents, along with flavors of raisin and maple syrup-like sweetness, cinnamon-like spiciness, and richness like sweet chestnut and chocolate.

About Mars Whisky

Hombo Shuzo Mars Whisky began whisky production in Kagoshima in 1949 and launched a full-scale whisky business in Yamanashi in 1960 under the design and guidance of Kiichiro Iwai. In 1985, the Mars Komagatake Distillery was completed in Miyada Village, Kamiina District, Nagano Prefecture (relocating distillation stills and other equipment). Although distillation of malt spirits was suspended during a period of stagnant whisky demand, it resumed in 2011. In 2016, the Mars Yakushima Aging Cellar was completed in Yakushima as a barrel storage facility, and the Mars Tsunuki Distillery was completed in Minamisatsuma City, Kagoshima Prefecture. We continue production as a whisky maker with two distilleries and three aging facilities.
