Founding Spirit

The Hombo Shuzo has been in business for over 100 years since 1872, succeeding in the wishes of the late owner.

Since the confused time that was shortly after the era name had changed to Meiji,
Matsuzaemon Hombo developed his business with inheriting the spirit of his father Gouemon’s aspiration
“social contribution with the encouragement of new industries.”

In the last half of the Meiji era, he started brewing Shochu using the sweet potato that was one of the typical Satsuma’s specialties.

Besides, the mountain forest business that he had started at the beginning of the Showa era stretched to Kagoshima, Miyazaki and Kumamoto as you see now.

While making efforts to contribute to the conservation of the global environment,
we still retain the same stance and spirit of the inauguration of the enterprise that is rooted in the love for our home province.
