An Island of World Natural Heritage yakushima

From the Island Where Ancient Nature Thrives a World Heritage Site

Yakushima, an island of World Natural Heritage, is embraced by rich, untouched nature. Hombo Shuzo began crafting shochu on this island in 1960. For over half a century, Yakushima Denshogura has been deeply rooted in this land, continuing its journey as a shochu distillery. With deep gratitude for Yakushima's abundant, pure water and the blessings of its land, the distillery remains dedicated to traditional handcrafted methods, producing rare honkaku shochu unique to Denshogura.

Handcrafted Kame-tsubo Fermentation Pot

Handcrafted Kame-tsubo Fermentation

The koji, which serves as the foundation for shochu-making, is meticulously crafted by hand in a traditional koji room. From the first to the second fermentation, the mash is fermented in Japanese clay pots, some of which have been in use since the Meiji era. Additionally, limited-edition imo shochu, made exclusively on the island, uses "Shiroyutaka" sweet potatoes harvested in Yakushima, along with the island's soft water.
