MARS MALT Le Papillon Double Cask Himeshiro-cho
Double Cask Single Malt (829 Bottles)
"MARS MALT Le Papillon" is a series that expresses the beauty of Japan's diverse climate and environment that shapes the maturation of whisky, using butterflies that inhabit Japan as a motif. This particular product, themed after the small-sized "Himeshirocho" butterfly that mainly inhabits low grasslands, is matured in two barrels - one made of cherry wood and the other of bourbon barrel - to evoke the image of the delicate white figure dancing in spring. It is a single malt whisky bottled at natural cask strength and non-chill filtered, distilled at Mars Komagatake Distillery (formerly known as Mars Shinshu Distillery) in 2015.
"In May 2020, the grasslands at the site of the Nagano Winter Olympics were beautifully maintained, and many fuki plants were sprouting. A small white butterfly was visible. It was the Himeshirocho butterfly laying eggs on the new shoots of Aconogonon speciosum. Although encounters with them have become rare recently, here, two or three of them would suddenly appear at our feet. In the distance, there were snow-capped mountains and fully bloomed cherry blossoms. I chased after this butterfly, floating gently in the calm wind like cherry blossom petals, losing track of time." This single malt whisky, expressing the image of the delicate white butterfly dancing in spring, is a blend of two barrels selected from the genshu distilled at Shinshu Distillery in
