"MARS MALT Le Papillon" is a series that expresses the beauty of Japan's diverse climate and environment that shapes the maturation of whisky, using butterflies inhabiting Japan as a motif.

This product, themed after the "Miyama Shijimi" butterfly of the Lycaenidae family that inhabits a limited area in central Honshu, is imagined in a deep blue-purple color reminiscent of the deep mountain rouge valley, and is a vatting of two casks matured in sherry barrels.

Distilled in 2016 at Mars Komagatake Distillery (formerly known as Mars Shinshu Distillery), this malt spirit was bottled at natural cask strength, non-chill filtered, and is an exceptional double cask single malt whisky.

"In August 2022, the endangered species of butterfly, the 'Miyama Shijimi,' was confirmed to inhabit Miyata Village in Nagano Prefecture, where Mars Komagatake Distillery is located. Subsequent investigations revealed that it is the largest breeding ground in the country. This small and delicate Lycaenidae butterfly inhabits central Honshu and is likened to the deep mountain rouge valley with its blue-purple wings as it gracefully flies through the forest."
