MARS MALT Le Papillon Double Cask Miyama-shijimi
Double Cask Single Malt (818 Bottles)
MARS MALT Le Papillon" is a series that captures the splendor of Japan's natural environment and its four distinct seasons—which shape our whisky's maturation—through the motif of butterflies native to Japan.
This expression is themed after the "Miyama Shijimi" (Reverdin's Blue), a butterfly of the Lycaenidae family inhabiting limited areas of central Honshu.
The deep blue-purple hue of its wings evokes the depth of the mountains. This exceptional double-cask single malt whisky is a vatting of two Sherry casks.
Distilled in 2016 at Mars Komagatake Distillery (formerly Mars Shinshu Distillery), the malt whisky was bottled at natural cask strength, non-chill filtered.
"In August 2022, a population of the endangered butterfly 'Miyama Shijimi' was confirmed in Miyada Village, Nagano Prefecture, home to Mars Komagatake Distillery. Subsequent investigations revealed it to be the largest breeding ground in the country. This small, delicate Lycaenidae butterfly inhabits central Honshu. Its name 'Miyama' means 'deep mountain,' and its blue-purple wings seem to reflect the serene depth of its forest home as it dances gracefully through the trees."
This whisky is inspired by the dancing "Miyama Shijimi" in the forest—a vatting of malt whiskies from two Sherry casks, creating a double-cask single malt.
