MARS MALT Le Papillon Double Cask Monki-ageha
Double Cask Single Malt (422 Bottles)
"MARS MALT Le Papillon" is a series that expresses the beauty of Japan's diverse climate and environment that shapes the maturation of whisky, using butterflies that inhabit Japan as motifs.
One of Japan's largest butterflies, the "Monarch" that widely inhabits western Japan, is the theme of this product. It is vatted from two barrels matured in bourbon barrels, imagining its distinctive appearance with black wings and large yellow-white spots.
It is a gem of single malt whisky distilled for the first time in the Mars Tsunuki Distillery, bottled at natural cask strength and non-chill filtered.
"I, living in Tokyo, used to gaze at picture books every day when I was in elementary school, thinking about butterflies in distant tropical countries. It was when I visited Miura Beach on a family trip. A butterfly I had never seen before was fluttering around the azaleas in full bloom. I held my breath! It was a Monarch. It was one size larger than the Black Swallowtail flying near my home, and its large white pattern was vivid. It was the first exotic butterfly I had ever encountered. It was a small encounter with the unknown, but for me as a child, it was a significant event that expanded my world by a step. Since then, for half a century, I have been chasing unseen butterflies with a camera in hand."
