MARS MALT Le Papillon Single Cask Kumomatsumaki-cho
Single Cask Release (643 Bottles)
"MARS MALT Le Papillon" is a series that expresses the beauty of Japan's diverse climate and environment that shapes the maturation of whisky, using butterflies that inhabit Japan as motifs.
This product, themed after the small alpine butterfly with a vivid orange color on the tip of its forewings called "Kumomatsumaki Chou," which only inhabits the high mountain range of the Chubu region, was selected from a single cask of genshu matured in a sherry butt, imagining its beautiful and solitary figure.
Distilled at Mars Komagatake Distillery (formerly known as Mars Shinshu Distillery) in 2015, this single cask whisky, bottled at natural cask strength and non-chill filtered, is a gem.
"The orange Kumomatsumaki Chou, which inhabits only the high mountain range of the Chubu region, is a solitary existence and a butterfly that insect-loving boys admire. My first encounter was on May 17, 1972. As a high school student, a friend and I headed to Hirogawara in the upper reaches of Norogawa in the Southern Alps. The round trip of 32 kilometers from the trailhead of Yasha-ga-touge took 10 hours. Calculating backwards, we only had about 30 minutes to spend in Hirogawara. Exhausted, I sat by the mountain stream, and an orange butterfly flew towards me
