MARS MALT Le Papillon Single Cask Miyamashiro-cho
Single Cask Release (585 Bottles)
The "MARS MALT Le Papillon" series expresses the natural environment related to whisky aging with the motif of Japanese butterflies. The third installment focuses on the "Miyama Shirochou," which inhabits a part of the central mountainous region. Imagining the delicate figure of the "mountain fairy" known for its white and beautiful wings, a single cask of non-peated genshu aged in American white oak new barrels was carefully selected.
Distilled at Mars Komagatake Distillery (formerly known as Mars Shinshu Distillery) in 2014, this malt spirit was aged with an emphasis on barrel flavors and bottled at natural cask strength, non-chill filtered, as a single cask whisky gem.
"In July 2016, as I walked along the road from Mount Yunomaru in Nagano Prefecture to the old Kanasawa Onsen, a white butterfly appeared out of nowhere. It was the Miyama Shirochou, a high-altitude butterfly. Its semi-transparent wings shone beautifully against the blue sky. After getting tired of nectaring on the Saxifraga fortunei, she disappeared into the meadow on a gentle breeze. This butterfly, known for its white and beautiful wings and referred to as the 'mountain fairy,' inhabits the lower parts of Nagano Prefecture and is at risk of extinction." The photo on the label and the description of the butterfly are by Mr. Ky
