"MARS MALT Le Papillon" is a series that expresses the beauty of Japan's diverse climate and environment that shapes the maturation of whisky, using butterflies that inhabit Japan as a motif. The theme of this product, which is based on the "Green Hairstreak" butterfly that inhabits deciduous broad-leaved forests in mountainous areas where mainly beech trees grow, is inspired by its particularly beautiful golden-green wings, known as the "jewels of the forest." A single cask of non-peated genshu matured in barrels used for aging umeshu was carefully selected.

Distilled at Mars Komagatake Distillery (formerly known as Mars Shinshu Distillery) in 2015, this malt spirit was bottled at natural cask strength, non-chill filtered, as a single cask whisky.

"The Green Hairstreak is a butterfly of the Zephyrus family, known as the 'jewel of the forest.' It resides in the canopy, has limited activity hours mainly in the early morning, and is a butterfly that sets a high bar for insect enthusiasts. My first encounter with it was during summer vacation in Shinshu spent with my grandmother during elementary school. On that day, I woke up early to search for stag beetles attracted to tree sap.
