"MARS MALT Le Papillon" is a series that captures the splendor of Japan's natural environment and its four distinct seasons—which shape our whisky's maturation—through the motif of butterflies native to Japan.
This expression is themed after the "Green Hairstreak" (Midorishijimi), a butterfly inhabiting deciduous broad-leaved forests in mountainous areas dominated by Beech trees.
Known as the "Jewel of the Forest," it is admired for its exceptionally beautiful golden-green wings.
Inspired by this beauty, we carefully selected a single cask of unpeated malt whisky matured in an Umeshu (Japanese Plum Liqueur) cask.
Distilled at Mars Komagatake Distillery (formerly Mars Shinshu Distillery) in 2015, this single cask single malt whisky is bottled at natural cask strength, non-chill filtered.

"The Green Hairstreak belongs to the Zephyrus group, often called the 'Jewels of the Forest.' Living high in the canopy and active mainly in the early morning, it is a species that sets a high bar for insect enthusiasts. My first encounter was during a summer vacation in elementary school, while staying with my grandmother in Shinshu. That day, I woke up early to search for stag beetles gathering at tree sap. The nearby forest road was my regular route. In the grass beside the winding path, I found a small butterfly shining in golden-green. The familiar landscape that I walked every day suddenly seemed to sparkle with new life."
