MARS MALT Le Papillon Single Cask Ishigake-cho
Single Cask Release (464 Bottles)
"MARS MALT Le Papillon" is a series that expresses the beauty of Japan's diverse climate and environment that shapes the maturation of whisky, using butterflies that inhabit Japan as motifs.
The sixth release focuses on the "Ishigakecho," which mainly inhabits the mountains south of the Kii Peninsula in Japan. Inspired by the distinctive rock cliff patterns that are also the origin of the butterfly's name, a medium-peated genshu matured in sherry casks was carefully selected.
This single cask whisky is a gem bottled at natural cask strength, non-chill filtered, emphasizing the barrel's flavors, and matured at the Mars Tsunuki Distillery from malt spirit distilled in 2015.
K. Hombo: "During the summer in Kagoshima, when walking around the outskirts of the urban area in the Yamate area, you may encounter a white butterfly with a peculiar mechanical way of flying... that is the Ishigakecho! Although not widely known, it is a classic target for insect collecting during summer vacation when we were in elementary and junior high school. The rock cliff pattern is so beautifully designed that it makes you think, 'Nature's gods are amazing!' We chose a peaty single cask that embodies the Ishigakecho from the malt spirit distilled in Shinshu and matured in Tsunuki."
The label artwork is created by the Kagoshima-based artist Tomoko Nakanoma.
