MARS MALT Le Papillon Single Cask Tsumabeni-cho
Single Cask Release (182 Bottles)
The "MARS MALT Le Papillon" series expresses the natural environment related to whisky aging with Japanese butterflies as a motif. The fourth edition focuses on the "Tsumabenichou," which is the southernmost limit in Kyushu, Japan. Imagining the powerful fluttering figure of a large wing with a beautiful contrast of tropical white and orange colors, a super heavily peated genshu aged in bourbon barrels was carefully selected.
The malt spirit distilled in 2014 and aged in Yakushima's E-gin cellar was meticulously chosen for its barrel-aged flavor, and bottled at natural cask strength, non-chill filtered as a single cask whisky masterpiece.
K. Hombo: "When I was a primary school student, the Tsumabenichou was the object of admiration for a boy who loved insects. During my first summer vacation in my freshman year of university, I visited Yakushima for the first time, and her beauty as she sucked nectar from a hibiscus flower is still fresh in my memory (although she is actually a male...). This barrel was chosen with her image in mind. The tropical contrast of white and orange and the agile flying power represent this nuance... A single malt whisky made from a 2014 Shinshu distilled heavily peated malt spirit, aged in Yakushima's environment where sea breezes and mountain winds blow."
The label artwork is created by the Kagoshima-based artist, Tomoko Nakaj
