MARS MALT Le Papillon Single Cask Miyama-karasu-ageha
Single Cask Release (560 Bottles)
"MARS MALT Le Papillon" is a series that captures the splendor of Japan's natural environment and its four distinct seasons—which shape our whisky's maturation—through the motif of butterflies native to Japan.
The fifth edition is themed after the "Miyama Karasuageha" (Alpine Black Swallowtail), found in various parts of Japan, including Nagano Prefecture.
Inspired by the beautiful sight of this butterfly fluttering with large, shining green wings, we selected a medium-peated malt whisky matured in an American White Oak barrel.
Distilled at Mars Komagatake Distillery (formerly Mars Shinshu Distillery) in 2014, this single cask single malt whisky is bottled at natural cask strength, non-chill filtered, highlighting the rich flavors derived from the barrel.
"During my elementary school years, I spent every summer vacation in Shinshu. Under the intense highland sun, the ultimate prize for a boy who spent his days exploring was the Miyama Karasuageha. Its size, striking colors, and agile flight truly exuded a regal presence.Net in hand, I would repeatedly challenge this admired butterfly to a duel, as those seemingly endless summer days drifted by...Even now, inhabiting various places including Shinshu, this butterfly—often called the most beautiful in Japan—surely continues to make the hearts of insect-loving boys flutter."
