MARS MALT Le Papillon Single Cask Nagasaki-ageha
Single Cask Release (621 Bottles)
"MARS MALT Le Papillon" is a series that expresses the beauty of Japan's diverse climate and environment that shapes the maturation of whisky, using butterflies that inhabit Japan as motifs.
The theme of this product, named after the large butterfly "Nagasakiageha" collected by Siebold in Nagasaki, is inspired by the image of a female butterfly with whitened wings seen in the southern islands of Japan feeding on hibiscus, and the selection of casks was made accordingly. Distilled at Mars Tsunuki Distillery in 2019, this single cask, single malt whisky was matured in a sherry cask at the Yakushima Aging Cellar and bottled at natural cask strength, non-chill filtered.
"Nagasakiageha": "When I was a child, Nagasakiageha was a butterfly that could only be seen in warm regions, and it was a butterfly of longing. Now, perhaps due to global warming, it also visits the garden of my home in northern Kanto. However, the Nagasakiageha seen in the Kanto region is completely black in both males and females, with only a slight white spot on the lower wings of the females. On the other hand, this white spot tends to grow larger and the wings become whiter as they move south. On some islands in the southwestern archipelago, you can see the beautiful Nagasakiageha flying around with wings completely whitened as shown
