"MARS MALT Le Papillon" is a series that captures the splendor of Japan's natural environment and its four distinct seasons—which shape our whisky's maturation—through the motif of butterflies native to Japan.
To mark the release of a precious, long-aged single malt whisky from Mars Komagatake Distillery (formerly Mars Shinshu Distillery), we commissioned the label design to Miyazaki-based artist Takahide Komatsu in October 2019.
He has created a monumental collection of 365 works covering 257 butterfly species native to Japan.
Skillfully employing the traditional techniques of the "Rinpa" school, each exquisite original artwork was meticulously finished.
One of these valuable pieces has been selected for the label, making this a truly special edition.
This whisky was distilled in 1990 using the original pot stills at Mars Komagatake Distillery. It is a rare single malt, aged for 30 years in American White Oak barrels.
Bottled at natural cask strength and non-chill filtered, it offers the deep, matured flavors that only long-term aging can yield.
