Mars Komagatake Distillery is located in Miyada Village, Nagano Prefecture. Every year in the latter half of September, many Asagi madara butterflies visit the "Asagi madara Village" to see the blooming flowers of the Fujiwara plant.
The "single malt Komagatake Asagi madara Village" series features a whisky that is vatted with the image of the Fujiwara flowers shining in the lush greenery and the light blue wings. The packaging showcases the artwork that won the grand prize at the annual "Asagi madara Village Photo Contest" held in Miyada Village.
Despite its elegant appearance, the Asagi madara butterfly migrates over 2,000km across the sea in spring and autumn. The reason for this migration is still unknown, making it a mysterious butterfly that embarks on a life-threatening journey from north to south only once in its five-month lifespan.
The photograph used on the packaging is titled "Asagi madara Hikari" by Mr. Yusuke Ikeda, which won the grand prize at the "Asagi madara Village Photo Contest 2021".
