At the southernmost tip of whisky production in Japan, the last vintage "single malt" whisky distilled in Kagoshima. Mars Whisky was born in 1949 (Showa 24) when it obtained a whisky manufacturing license in Kagoshima.
In 1960 (Showa 35), a manufacturer for wine and whisky production (now Mars Yamanashi Winery) was established in Yamanashi Prefecture. Then, in 1985 (Showa 60), Mars Komagatake Distillery (formerly known as Mars Shinshu Distillery) was established in Miyata Village, Kamiina District, Nagano Prefecture, as a base for whisky and brandy production.
In the year before the whisky production base was moved to Mars Komagatake Distillery in 1984 (Showa 59), the malt spirit distilled in Kagoshima was matured in sherry casks for 25 years and the last five casks are now sleeping.
This single malt whisky, "The Malt of Kagoshima 1984 25 Years," was vatted (blended) from the five casks of malt spirit distilled in Kagoshima in 1984 and matured in sherry casks for 25 years.
It has been crafted into a masterpiece that harmonizes the profound taste reminiscent of the majestic Sakurajima with the peaty aroma evoking the scent of the rocky shores of Kink
