"Shochu Kingdom" Kagoshima

Throughout the world, there are many alcoholic beverages deeply rooted in regional cultures.

One of Japan’s representative alcoholic beverages is "Honkaku Shochu" (authentic shochu).

Among them, Kagoshima is known as the "Shochu Kingdom", boasting a history and culture of significance.

During the Edo period, known as the Satsuma domain, shochu spread in the Kagoshima region, and Kagoshima continues to produce it as a traditional Japanese Spirits.

Transcending 100 Years of Time

Shochu brewing began in 1909 when the Hombo Brothers Company was established by three brothers. In 1918, they introduced a continuous distillation machine, considered state-of-the-art in Japan.

In 1928, the Hombo family invested, changing the firm into the Hombo Corporation. During the early Showa period, Takaraboshi Shochu supported the company’s growth.

The Hombo family transitioned their business from agriculture to processing and selling local products, eventually transforming into a successful corporation. Hombo Shuzo, with a history spanning over 100 years, preserves its founding spirit and pursues Hombo Quality.

Innovating Shochu for 100 Years

Spreading Shochu Culture Worldwide

Shochu culture evolves with the times. Even the way it is consumed has changed over the years.

Not only the traditional "warmed shochu", popular in Kagoshima, but also new drinking styles like "on the rocks" and "highball" have emerged based on the era and region.

Hombo Shuzo aims to create shochu that is not only appreciated in Japan but also accepted worldwide. Through initiatives such as developing delicious shochu for "highball" and "on the rocks", their efforts have been recognized not only in Japan but also in global spirits competitions.
