Hombo Shuzo Co., Ltd. is proud to announce that its Honkaku Shochu, Kura no okimiyage, was awarded the Grand Prize—the highest honor in the Kome Shochu category—at the 5th Shochu-Taisho award ceremony held in Tokyo on July 22 (Wed). Additionally, Honkaku Shochu Yakushima Daishizenrin Mugi earned the Excellence Award in the Mugi Shochu category.

About Shochu-Taisho
Shochu-Taisho (Selected by Liquor Retailers) brings together professional liquor retailers from across Japan who specialize in shochu. These experts select and judge nominated spirits based on “the shochu they are most eager to share with customers” and “the shochu they recommend with utmost confidence.”

For this 5th edition, 119 liquor retailers nationwide participated, with 223 expressions of Honkaku Shochu and Awamori nominated. Divided into five categories, the entries undergo a rigorous blind tasting by participating retailers to determine the top shochu they most highly recommend for the year.
